Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary Information Shafqat Mahmood on Thursday said that the three names put forward by PML-N are eminent people and qualified to assume the challenging mantle of caretaker Prime Minister. Commenting on the names conveyed to PTI by Jamaat-i-Islami, Shafqat Mahmood said former Justice Nasir Aslam Zahid, former Justice Shakirullah Jan and Rasool Bakhsh Palejo have clean records and have distinguished themselves in public service.
"Former Justice Nasir Aslam Zahid had resigned on principle rather than retake oath on the PCO. He is a man of high integrity and PTI has no doubt that he will be able to discharge his duties without fear or favour. The same can be said for former Justice Shakirullah and Palejo," he added. He also said the party was approached by Jamaat-i-Islami to seek its opinion on the three names put forward by PML-N.
He was of the view that the party feels that propriety demanded that it should have been directly consulted by the N-league, but it was not. "This is particularly strange that Nawaz Sharif had himself declared a few weeks ago that while constitutional requirement was that only the leader of the House and the Opposition would decide on the name of the caretaker Prime Minister but his party would consult all major parties inside and outside parliament to evolve a consensus. However, that was not done with PTI, even though the party had indicated that it would be ready to be consulted formally by PML-N," he added.
