ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday disqualified Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) parliamentarian Iftikhar Ahmed Khan from Punjab Assembly on the charge of him possessing a fake degree.

The verdict was given by a three-judge bench comprising of Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan and Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman while ruling over an appeal filed by Khan against the decision taken by Lahore High Court (LHC).

During the course of the proceedings, Khan’s counsel Akram Sheikh maintained that the LHC had disqualified his client without noting all sides to the case.

The bench then gave the PML-N parliamentarian a paragraph to translate. The paragraph was written in Arabic language and was taken from the graduate examination he had attempted in 2004.

Khan said that he was unable to understand the test and needed a month to get an understanding of it.

On Khan’s failure to translate the paragraph, the bench maintained the decision of LHC and dismissed the appeal filed against his disqualification.

Khan was elected from PP-81 District Jhang during the general elections 2013.
