Shoaib Malik and Tino Best exchange harsh words, Sania Mirza calls Best an “idiot”

Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik and West Indies pacer Tino Best were involved in a heated exchange during the Caribbean Premier League match between St Lucia Zouks and Barbados Tridents on Thursday.

The duo came face to face after Best bowled Malik, playing for Barbados, for 49 and directed a few words at the Pakistani batsman, who pushed the bowler and returned the favour as some verbal exchanges continued mid-pitch.

Malik hit the pacer for consecutive fours before Best uprooted the leg stump as the batsman tried to flick him down the leg side. The ever-excitable Best then celebrated by saying a few words to Malik, who stopped and retaliated.

Malik’s wife, Indian tennis star Sania Mirza later tweeted, hinting that the altercation had racial overtones:

The incident didn’t have much impact on the match as Barbados posted 186 on board with the help of a fine century by Dwayne Smith and Malik’s 49 off 37 balls. St. Lucia Zouks could only score 157 off their alotted 20 overs, losing the match by 29 runs.

The heroic cricket star and Pakistani all-rounder, Shahid Khan Afridi was looking extremely depressed during the presentation ceremony of Asia Cup finale.

Afridi couldn’t face any single ball in the final match of Asia Cup against Sri Lanka. Other side, he couldn’t bowl magical spell so far in this match.

While, Afridi is the same saviour who rescued the Pakistani team in last two matches.

DHAKA: Shahid Afridi smashed the second fastest one-day half-century to give Pakistan a three wicket win over Bangladesh on Tuesday and a place in the Asia Cup final.

Afridi, who went into bat with Pakistan needing 101 off 52 balls, smashed paceman Shafiul Islam for a four to reach fifty off just 18 balls, one short of one-day cricket's fastest-ever half-century record held by Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya, made against Pakistan in Singapore in 1996.

He equalled his own record of second fastest one-day fifty, set twice by him. He scored an 18-ball fifty during his 37-ball hundred against Sri Lanka in Nairobi in 1996 and another 18-ball fifty against the Netherlands at Colombo in 2002. In all, Afridi took seven sixes and two boundaries off just 25 balls.

Similarity between Miandad’s famous six and Afridi’s performance against India.

Approximately 30 years ago, on 18 April, 1986, Miandad provided Pakistanis one of their most cherishable moments in the history of cricket; a last ball six in a nail-biting thriller against India in Sharjah. The history repeated itself with Shahid Afridi where he finished the match with two consecutive sixes to lead Pakistan to a much awaited win over India.

Both the players hail from Karachi and they are regarded as one of the finest cricketers of Pakistan.

The juxtaposition:

18th April, 1986 — India decided to bat first and set the target of 246 for Pakistani team. In the last over, Tauseef Ahmed takes a single and Miandad clinched the inning with a memorable six.

Wasim Akram to marry Melbourne woman

PAKISTAN cricket great Wasim Akram is engaged to marry Melbourne woman Shaniera Thompson.

The famed left-arm bowler, 47, proposed on bended knee in their lounge room to Ms Thompson, 30.

"It was the romantic moment of my life because it was so genuine," she said.

A former public relations consultant from Brighton, Ms Thompson has converted to Islam, and will call Pakistan home. She said Akram was nervous about proposing in the traditional way.

"He was really sweet about it.

He asked me what my dream proposal would be and I said I'm not the type of woman that likes a big scene. I would want it to be at home or somewhere private.

"Then I came into the lounge room and he was on his knee and asked me if I'd marry him."

But the joyful mood was soon broken by a worried look on Thompson's face.

She told Akram: "If we are doing this the traditional way, then you have to ask my father."

He called Ms Thompson's father, who gave his blessing.
The pair met in Melbourne in 2011 and Akram said he was happy he had found love.

"I never thought I would get married again, but I am lucky and very happy to find love again," he said.

"It just goes to show that life can give you a second chance."

Akram's first wife, Huma, died in 2009. They had two boys, now aged 15 and 12.

The two were in each other's face for some time, exchanging heated arguments before being separated by Suresh Raina. Even the umpires intervened as both were not ready to let go and calm down.

India suffered a five wicket loss in the first T20 against Pakistan at Bangalore.

ISLAMABAD - Star all-rounder of Pakistan cricket team, Shahid Afridi has failed to perform well in the one-day series against Australia and consequently, cricket lovers have demanded his retirement from international cricket.

The Pakistani game-lovers have proposed ‘modelling’ as an ideal alternate profession for Shahid Afridi, once pronounced ‘Boom Boom’ by his fans.

According to details, Afridi was expected to perform well in the recently held series against Australian cricket team, however, he got out for a duck while batting in the first one-day match and in the second, he was able to score only seven runs.

Not only this, but in the 20 overs he bowled in two matches, he conceded 99 runs and could bowl out only a single Australian batsman.

Sources said the bowling of Shahid Afridi, known for variety in spin bowling could not trouble his opponents and even in the third and decisive match of the series, he conceded 62 runs without taking a wicket.

His fielding performance was no different and in the third match of the series he dropped a catch, which could have been a turning point in the game. Moreover, in the last seven one-day matches, Afridi could score only 35 runs, sources said.

Sources further said Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board, Chaudhary Zaka Ashraf decided to select Shahid Khan Afridi in the team on political pressure and the selection committee endorsed the decision.

According to analysts, good decisions are made not under pressure but through impartial selection.

The selection of the ‘ favorites’ in the Pakistani team has mounted pressure on the players on the whole, they added.

On the other hand, the spectators have demanded that Afridi should be ousted from the Pakistani team by accusing him of ‘lobbying’.

Umpire Asad Rauf claims he is innocent, he didn’t promise

ICC elite panel umpire Asad Rauf of Pakistan on Tuesday denied he was in a relationship with Bollywood starlet Leena Kapoor or had promised to marry her. Rauf, 56, conceded that Kapoor was an “acquaintance”.
Kapoor complained to police on Monday that Rauf, whom she met in Sri Lanka six months ago and exchanged phone numbers with, had gone back on his promise to marry her.
“I do remember the girl. She was keen to be part of the Bigg Boss TV show and wanted me to put in a word for her,” Rauf told The Indian Express over the phone from Pakistan.
“I don’t remember where I met her,” Rauf said. “During our travels around the world and at the Indian Premier League parties we meet a number of fans and people in the show business. They request you for pictures and we oblige.”
A picture of Rauf and Kapoor, with the starlet leaning heavily against the umpire with an arm around his neck, appeared in the Mumbai tabloid Mid-Day Tuesday.
Kapoor insisted Rauf had betrayed him. “How can he put me in a television show? He is lying. After the shoot of my movie Lender got over in March, I went to a resort in Sri Lanka with friends, where I met him,” she said. “He told me that he would marry me but now he doesn’t even recognise me.”
Rauf had officiated in two Tests between Sri Lanka and England in Colombo and Galle between March 26 and April 7. The former first-class cricketer and popular umpire has been on the elite panel for eight years. He said he was prepared to face an inquiry over Kapoor’s allegation.
“Out of my 10,000 followers on Facebook, 99 per cent are from India,” he said. “If there is any truth in what this girl is saying, and in case she has some concrete evidence, I am ready to come down to India to be questioned.”

Mumbai: Renowned cricket umpire Asad Rauf has been caught on the back foot following allegations by an Oshiwara-based model that the former Pakistan first-class cricketer sexually exploited her for several months after promising marriage.
Leena Kapoor has sent a written complaint (copy with MiD DAY) to the office of Pratap Dighavkar, DCP, zone IX. She has mentioned that she had met Rauf through a mutual friend in Sri Lanka six months ago. They exchanged numbers and then stayed together in the country for three days.
On reaching Mumbai, she fell ill. Rauf came over to see her and their bond grew stronger. Kapoor says Rauf committed at the time that he would marry her and get her a new flat. He told her he was married and had two kids, but his religion allowed him to have more than one wife and his family would give its consent.
The two kept meeting, often when Rauf - who is a member of ICC Elite Umpire Panel - would come over to India to officiate in tournaments including the IPL. "I asked him several times about the marriage and he would always tell me that it would happen soon," Kapoor told MiD DAY.
Kapoor said that a few days earlier she tried calling Rauf, but there was no response from his side. Five days ago, he allegedly called her up saying he didn't know her and didn't want any further interactions with her.
According to officials from the DCP's office, they have received a letter and an inquiry would be conducted soon.

New Delhi: As can be expected from India, it followed a planned conspiracy to persuade Bangladeshi cricketers and Bangladesh Cricket Board not to tour Pakistan by stating security reasons. According to Indian News agency, PTI, top Bangladeshi cricketers, Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal and Abdur Razzaq have refused to tour Pakistan after being persuaded by Rajiv Shakla and bought by IPL teams.
