Police continues extortion racket in the name of Karachi operation

Monday, 24 February 2014

The private TV network, Dawn news revealed in a recently aired documentary that Karachi operations has become a source of generating large amounts of bribe from Karachi Police.

SHO Mochko/Maripur, Shafiq Tanoli and SHO Shah Faisal, Fahim Farooqui are infamous for their third degree torture techniques. These people pick up irrelevant and arbitrary people (Urdu speakings, poor Pashtuns and Balochs) and then threaten their families to pay a particular amount of bribe to get them released or else the names of their family members are put in the list of targeted killers or dacoits.

Maripur, Baldia, Orangi and adjacent areas of Karachi are heavily affected of police bribery.
Several weeks ago, owners of catering center have also been illegally detained by police men, and still are missing from Chishti Nagar, Orangi Town. A 16 year old boy from the same locality was also picked up from his house and the 2 serious cases were put against him just because his parents were not able to afford his release. Scores of innocent poor people are detained in Mochko police station, and many of them are paying extortion money to Shafiq Tanoli team after selling their assets for the release.

Shafiq Tanoli and Faheem Farooqi are just some of the officers whose names have come up but there is a large number of policemen who are involved in these extortion activities without any fear.

Seems like, a clean-chit has been issued by PPP-led Sindh government to loot innocent people of Karachi on the name of Karachi operation.

Saturday, 24 September 2011

Eyewitness identifies three ANP Extortionists in double murder case

An eyewitness in the double murder case of two brothers recorded his statement before Judicial Magistrate East Malik Akhter on Friday and identified a suspect allegedly involved in the crime. The suspect, identified as Saleem Mehsud, allegedly came into a shop and opened fire on a man named Umair for refusing to pay extortion. However, the bullets hit the two brothers, Munawar and Mansoor instead.

The Eyewitness of the double murder had earlier recorded his statement before the Magistrate that on August 7th and claimed he was standing outside a shop near Abul Hasan Isphani road and was talking to the victims when three motorcyclists Salim Mehsud, Yar Khan and Azmati came to the shop and opened fire.

“We both immediately ran into the shop as soon as the firing stopped and saw that Mansoor and Munawar, the two brothers, had suffered bullet injuries. We rushed them to a nearby hospital, but the doctors declared that both of them died on the way. I took the dead bodies to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and put them into cold storage as the younger brother of the deceased was out of town.

He said that one of the accused, Saleem Mehsud, was present in the courtroom, whereas his accomplices were still absconding. However, the witness did say that he could recognise them if they were produced in court.

He also mentioned that all the three suspects belonged to the Awami National Party (ANP) and were known to locals for collecting extortion money from people. Any one who refuses to pay, he said, becomes a victim of their brutality. The judge, after recording the statement issued, “I personally testified the eyewitness and examination has been taken under my hand”, he concluded.
