Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Major-General Asim Bajwa said that I could not anticipate that any citizen or any political party of Pakistan would support Taliban terrorists (who were targeting innocent children).

Further, he stated, “if any citizen or political party supports Taliban terrorists then nation will decide the final verdict“.

PTI-JI coalition govt takes U-turn on biometric system in LG polls

ISLAMABAD: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government appears to have realised that the biometric system in local government elections could delay the exercise at the lowest tier for an indefinite time therefore it settled on introducing the system at a small tehsil of district Haripur.

But that too, a meeting was told, would require 20 weeks for procurement and transportation of machines.
Briefing reporters after a meeting held with Acting Chief Election Commissioner Justice Nasirul Mulk in the chair to discuss matters related to the LG polls in the KP, Additional Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Syed Sher Afghan said around 500 to 1000 biometric machines were estimated to be required for Ghazi.

He said the ECP was ready to announce the schedule for LG elections in the KP within 10 days to hold polls before June 30, if the idea of even procuring machines for Ghazi was dropped. He said a few more months would be required, if it was to be done.

He said the KP government had been asked to submit a written reply within next two days to explain if they wanted the pilot project at the cost of delay of a few months, or otherwise. He said anomalies in the LG law, rules and delimitation have been removed.

Sources in the ECP say the Commission will issue the schedule for LG polls in the next week if the KP government agrees to withdraw from the demand of pilot project in Ghazi, as well.

Analysts however believe that the delimitation issue could still delay the electoral exercise.

The Supreme Court had recently held that it was the mandate of the ECP to hold free and fair polls, and delimitation was part of it. The court had asked the ECP to carry out delimitation in Punjab and Sindh for LG polls.

The ECP had already approached the apex court seeking more time for delimitation in the two provinces, but is going with the plan to hold LG polls on the basis of delimitation not conducted by it. The analysts are of the view that a similar decision in the case of KP was also possible, if somebody challenges the delimitation in the Supreme Court.

ASWJ leader has praised the persona of JI’s chief and dubbed him as ‘hard-working’ political worker.

Further Ludhianvi wished that newbie chief will strengthen mutual relationship among different religious parties and movements. He castigated Pervez Musharraf and said, if Musharraf flees then it will boost hooligans.

PESHAWAR: Private News channel has got hold of a letter from the Pakistani Taliban addressed to the newly elected Amir of Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Maulana Sirajul Haq which stresses that an armed struggle is a must to enforce an Islamic system in the country.

“Our destination is the same but the difference is in the modus operandi to achieve it,” said the letter from Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Mohmand Agency head Umer Khalid Khurasani addressed to JI Amir.

It further said ‘it is hoped that you (Sirajul Haq) would carry forward the mission of Syed Munawar Hassan without making any compromise’.

NORTH WAZIRISTAN / ISLAMABAD: Fighter jets bombed hideouts of suspected militants in North Waziristan last night, killing 40 insurgents including foreign nationals, security officials said on Thursday.

Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chapter Professor Mohammad Ibrahim condemned the bombings in North Waziristan. He is one of the members of committee formed by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to act as a bridge between the government and the TTP for peace negotiations.

On February 19, the TTP had offered to observe a ceasefire to allow the resumption of stalled peace talks, provided security forces stop killing and arresting its members.

Peshawar: Jamaat-e-Islami leader and member of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan's (TTP) talks committee, Professor Ibrahim has said, the demand of one-sided ‘cease fire’ from government is not right, both sides should have to cease fire.

Further he said, the dialogue progress is aired on media which be destructive for peace dialogue proceedings.

“Government should declare cease fire from its side as well. The demand of cease fire from one side is incomprehensible”, he added more.

LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Syed Munawar Hasan said after the government had avoided peace talks with Taliban under US pressure; the religious forces should step forward and pave the way for dialogue to save the country and the image of Islam.

Delivering the Friday sermon at Mansoora masjid, the JI chief said if clerics did not rise to the occasion, they would be driven to a blind alley and would have no way out. He warned that neither jet bombings on tribal people could help restore peace nor suicide bombings could pave the way for the enforcement of Shariah.

He said clerics had played key role in framing the 1973 Constitution, and it was their duty at this juncture to protect the country and the constitution. A charge sheet has been issued against the religious parties and they would have to answer that, he added.

He said the enemy had always used differences of the Islamic sects and schools of thought as a weapon against Muslims. The need of the hour was that clerics of different schools of thought should evolve an effective strategy to counter the current campaign against Islam.

He said the propaganda that Taliban did not accept the country’s constitution was being made at this moment with a motive, and the present rulers were going to fulfil Washington’s old desire for annihilating the North Waziristan. He said hundreds of people were falling victim to bombings in Waziristan. He said bombings did not hit a target, they also killed innocent people and after Swat and Bonier, thousands of people had been forced to shift from Waziristan.

NED University — IJT activist killed in drone strike

PESHAWAR — Three suspected militants including ‘Islami Jamiat-e-Talba—IJT’ activist were killed and two others were wounded in a U.S. drone attack in the Miranshah on Friday.

“All the victims were members of the Punjabi Taliban. They would cross Afghan border” said a security official in Miranshah.

The activist of student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami (IJT), Abdur Rehman Shujat s/o Shujat Hussain (Jamaat-e-Islami worker) killed in a drone attack on 29th November, 2013.

Shujat was an engineer by profession, and had worked as an activist of IJT, NED University, Batch — 2004, department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering.

Abdullah Shujat, the brother of deceased had also worked as IJT Nazim Karachi (2009).

According to reports, he was the resident of 11-A North Karachi and he was working for the ‘Punjabi Taliban group’, one of the proxies of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan.

Intelligence agencies have raided Shujat’s house and nabbed Shujat Hussain and his son Abdullah Shujat in May, 2011. Law enforcement agencies nabbed Shujat for facilitating unknown terrorists, that later turned out to be the perpetrators of Mehran Base Attack, Karachi.

It is also pertinent that another student activist of IJT from NED University, Abdus Salam was also killed in a drone attack few years back.

Police arrest 2 IJT members for manhandling PU teachers

LAHORE: Police have conducted raid in Punjab University, arresting two students, affiliated with Islami Jamiat e Talaba (IJT), for allegedly manhandling teachers of the academic institution.

According to the sources, the teachers were manhandled and later confined in a college room who were later freed by the Vice Chancellor and police.

The arrested students are identified as Farooq Khan and Hafiz Wajid.

Meanwhile, IJT have demanded to release the arrested students.

Lahore: During investigation, detained al-Qaeda operative has confessed that he was involved in the attack at Denmark embassy and he was the mastermind.

The group carried out attack at Denmark Embassy on June 2nd, 2008. June 5th, 2008, Al-Qaeda had accepted the responsibility for the attack on Denmark embassy.

Last month, he was arrested from Punjab University, according to the report he was residing in the hostel of PU along with Ahmed Sajjad Rathore, the student and Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba’s (IJT) activist. The Vice Chancellor of Punjab University has revealed that IJT shelters al-Qaeda terrorists in PU hostel.

Al-Qaeda operative had planned to kidnap notable personalities for ransom. According to the news report, he could have sabotaged the peace of biggest cities including Lahore. According to authorities the al-Qaeada network had weakened after these arrests.

IJT shelters Al-Qaeda terrorists in PU hostel: VC

LAHORE: The Vice Chancellor of Punjab University has revealed to Geo News that there are armed and illegal occupants residing in the hostels of the varsity.

Dr Mujahid Khan said that these illegal occupants also have an extortion list and were heavily armed. “One room was raided in the hostel and only one arrest was made. Mobile phones, list of Islami Jamiat Talba members, jihadi literature, NATO jacket, clothes and plastic gloves were recovered.”

According to sources, raids were conducted by intelligence agencies in the residential colony and a suspect was taken into custody. Agencies had received information that the suspect identified as Shehzad was a bomb making expert working for Al-Qaeda.

Later, on information obtained from Shehzad, two other suspects were arrested from the University of Engineering and Technology in Lahore.

A retired doctor was also arrested from the Township area while his son was detained few days earlier. Law enforcement agencies claim that the father and son were involved in fund raising and logistic support for the Taliban.

Al-Qaeda commander found from student wing’s hostel

LAHORE: A suspected militant belonging to Al-Qaeda was picked up by a sensitive agency from a hostel of Punjab University (PU) on Tuesday.

It is learnt some personnel of the secret agency raided PU Hostel No. 1 New Campus on a tip off and captured the suspect who was living in room number 237 where a student Ahmed Sajjad belonging to Okara was boarding.

Sources said Ahmed Sajjad had been an activist of a student organization in the past but it had disowned him. They further said the hostel superintendent was not aware of the raid as permission was already sought from higher authorities of the varsity.

They added Ahmed Sajjad was MS student at the PU College of Statistical and Actuarial Sciences. They also said Ahmed Sajjad was not present at the time of the raid. The sources also said the suspect has been shifted to some unknown location for interrogation.

They also said some plainclothesmen came in four vehicles around 4:00pm on Tuesday and nabbed the suspect. The sources also said hostel clerk Basharat was removed by the hostel superintendent almost three months back for his alleged role in accommodating outsiders at the varsity hostel.

They also alleged hostel warden Saeed Farooq did not inform the hostel superintendent of the entire episode. Sources in sensitive agency have also confirmed the report saying that during initial investigations his link with Al-Qaeda has been established. They also claimed that the suspect was on a suicidal mission. Further interrogation will reveal the suspect’s type of link with the organization and his intended mission. PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran did not attend the call.

JI to impart military training to civilians

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Minister Sirajul Haq has said that Jamaat-e-Islami would impart military training to men and women aged between 18 and 35 years as part of its strategy to promote the spirit of jihad in the nation and the armed forces.

Speaking at a news conference, he said that the party was not shy of supporting its commitment. He said the JI wanted to implement its training programme because it believed that the armed forces alone could not protect the country. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is a partner of the JI in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.

Last week, TTP distributed pamphlets in Buner and Peshawar in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and different areas of Karachi warning people not to participate in the election campaign or cast their votes at polling stations on May 11. The pamphlets warned voters that they would themselves be responsible for their own lives on the day.

On the other hand, Pakistani Taliban have announced that they will not target right-wing political parties including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led by former prime minister of Nawaz Sharif, the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) led by former Pakistani cricketer Imran Khan, Jamaat-i-Islami (JI), and Jamiat-i-Ulma Islam (JUI-F) led by Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman.

"Taliban shura had decided to target those secular political parties which were part of the previous coalition government and involved in the operation in Swat, Fata and other areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwah," TTP spokesperson Eshsanullah Ehsan as saying.

JI dislikes the involvement of its workers and supporters in Tableegh, Tableeghi Jamaat and stops them to join any such religious awareness movement.

“Darulifta-deoband.org” has given fatwa against JI that it is party of hypocrites and they are propagating false Islamic principles to attract masses. According to fatwa, it is forbidden to join and spread the ideology of Jamaat-e-Islami.

The literature of JI is totally against the Deobandi sect and Islam.

According to the official website of election comission of Pakistan (ECP), almost all candidates of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) for upcoming polls-2013 didn’t pay their taxes.

Jamaat-e-Islami is one of the few political parties which is known to promote religious mind middle class leadership in the politics of Pakistan.

Seems like it can cause massive dent on credibility of Jamaat-e-Islami’s self claimed “Honest Leadership”

Dr Fauzia vs the Jamaat-e-Islami

KARACHI: Ms Fauzia Siddiqui, the sister of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, will be contesting elections against former mayor of Karachi and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Naimatullah Khan. Understandably, this has put the JI in a tight spot.

She originally decided to contest from NA-250 (Karachi) in order to take on former President Pervez Musharraf. Now, his nomination papers for that constituency have been rejected and one has to wait and see whether he will file an appeal or not.

Fauzia, who decided to contest as an independent after getting a cold shoulder from the JI, is still in the running. Despite the JI’s best efforts, she has refused to withdraw. A senior JI leader in Karachi confirmed that efforts were made to convince her not to contest but she insisted and there is not much they can do to change her mind.

Why the JI refused her a ticket is another question. Sources say the tough JI conditionality for selection of the candidates may have prevented them from nominating or even supporting her in the elections. But one wonders why the Jamaat, which has seen its influence in Karachi whittled away, did not cash in on this opportunity.

After all, the Pasban, which comprises of youth members of the JI, have led a campaign too free Dr Aafia since 2005 and are still backing Fauzia Siddiqui. They too are now in a fix.
However, the JI is now giving more importance to its other youth wing, Shabab-e-Milli , and seems to have practically abandoned the Pasban, which was promoted by former JI Ameer, Qazi Hussain Ahmad, in the ’90s.

Fauzia, who is inexperienced in politics, came to the fore after 2005, when for the first time a foreign female journalist disclosed the presence of her sister Aafia in an Afghan jail.
Dr Aafia, who was residing in the US, disappeared in May 2003 after she left her home in Karachi, where she was staying with her mother. It is generally believe that she was picked up in an intelligence operation and handed over to the US at the old Quaid-e-Azam International Airport, from where she was flown to Kabul.

Surprisingly, the then MMA, which included the JI, did not raise the issue in the National Assembly or even in what was then the NWFP Assembly.

Her mother, who was interviewed for the first time by me, about a week after Aafia’s disappearance, disclosed that she was assured by then chairman of the Senate Mohammad Mian Soomro and Mushahid Hussain Syed, that she would be returned. That promise remains unfulfilled.

One also wonders what Fauzia Siddiqui wants to achieve by contesting elections, given that she stands little chance of success and that her defeat can only damage her sister’s cause. She has every right to feel disappointed with the JI for not supporting her or nominating her, but the cause of releasing her sister should take precedence over an electoral bid.

The Jamaat could have accommodated her on a reserved seat and only the Jamaat’s leadership knows why they did not do so. If they can make seat adjustments with the PML (N), the leader of which its Ameer once described as “two sides of the same coin,” when comparing him to Asif Ali Zardari, then one seat could have been given to Fauzia as well.

250 kg explosives recovered from the possession of the Jamaat-e-Islami leader

CHITRAL, March 1: Civil Judge Mohammad Shoaib dismissed on Friday the bail petition of former district Nazim and local Jamaat-i-Islami leader Maghfirat Shah who had been arrested recently after explosives were found at the site of his under-construction hydro-power house.

The former nazim has been shifted to district jail from the DHQ hospital where he had been admitted two days ago because of cardiac problems.

He was booked under sections 5 and 6 of the Explosives Substance Act along with section 380 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

According to police, the explosives had earlier been stolen from a warehouse of a South Korean construction company building a hydropower project in Chitral.

It is alleged that out of 700kg of stolen explosives, 250kg had been recovered from the possession of the Jamaat leader which he used for blasting rocks to build a channel for the hydro-power project in Jughoor village near Chitral town.

The explosives had allegedly been stolen by some employees of the company, who sold them to four people, including the Jamaat leader.

The counsel for the petitioner claimed that he had been falsely implicated in the case.
