ISLAMABAD: The ‘tsunami’ of cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan, it appears, is hurting his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) more than anybody else.
In what could be a blow for the party’s rising popularity, PTI’s newly appointed Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi has developed serious differences with Imran over his ‘unilateral decision’ to boycott last month’s by-elections.
Qureshi’s home constituency Multan, his only apparent political asset, was taken away by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s son. The former foreign minister fears the future elections would now be an uphill task for him.
The premier’s son, Ali Musa Gilani, literally had a walkover in the by-polls for the National Assembly by beating a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate with a margin of over 50,000 votes in the constituency.
Sources close to both Imran and Qureshi told on Monday that both leaders had exchanged harsh words over what Qureshi said was a ‘unilateral decision’ made without consulting other party members.
Some PTI leaders say Qureshi is angry at Imran for letting Gillani’s son win the seat without a contest. They say the relationship between him and the PTI chief were so tense that Qureshi was contemplating parting ways and contesting the upcoming general elections as an independent candidate.
A member of his family, wishing not to be named, said Qureshi sometimes regrets his decision of choosing the PTI over PML-N. PTI officials said the former minister, who had considerable experience of parliamentary and constituency politics, had been trying to convince Imran not to stay away from the polls.
“You need to be in the system to change it,” sources quoted Qureshi as telling Imran, who has been calling himself a harbinger of change.
However, they said Imran was adamant on his decision of boycotting the by-elections.

In a Private T.V show, Front Line with Kamran Shahid, the host, Kamran Shahid posed a question to Pakistan Tehreel-e-Insaf women wing President Ms. Fauzia Kasuri about the eligibility of Shah Mehmood Qureshi as party's Vice Chairman, considering the fact that many loyal and dedicated workers of PTI were ignored. The reply of Ms. Fauzia Kasuri was not very satisfying. And it clearly seemed that PTI had violated its own constitution by making Qureshi a vice-chairman.

Imran, Qureshi differ on drone attacks

ISLAMABAD: Addressing a press conference here on Saturday evening after the Central General Body meeting of the Tehreek-e-Insaf, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said the present government’s consent is not there in the drone attacks.
He said these attacks are a continuation of the policies pursued by former president Gen Pervez Musharraf and ‘we had opposed them’. 
“We had protested to the United States of America over these attacks and asked them to furnish the technology to Pakistan.” 
However, Imran Khan differed and said that the drone attacks are being conducted with the consent of the present government and the rulers are responsible for them.

PTI to head towards disarray because of internal conflicts

Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf may have been becoming the most popular party in recent polls,but the implications of everyone joining the party are quite hazardous for its future. apart from being labelled as next Q-league by many analysts,the party seems to be heading towards a a disarray. 

Many politicians who have become the members of the party are close competitors of each other in the same electoral constituencies and this seems to threat the party's discipline in the near future.
This seems to be particularly the case in Multan where Javed Hashmi and Shah Mehmood Qureshi are close rivals of each other in the same constituency while both now want to be named as the candidate in the same constituency by the party. Same is the case with Khurshid Ahmed Qasuri and Sardar Asif Ali in Qasur.

Rivals of Multan Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Javed Hashmi, both are part of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. But the hatred is remain between them. In the private tv show, Haroon Rasheed revealed that Vice Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Shah Mehmood Qureshi asked Imran Khan not to receive Javed Hashmi at Karachi airport. Haroon Rasheed added, Javed Hashmi is more important than Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Javed Hashmi can win seats from every where in Punjab for PTI while Qureshi can only win seat from Multan.

The PTI leader was talking to media after meeting Sindhi nationalist leader Jalal mehmood Shah here today.

'In Sindh we need pitch to get wickets and PTI is making one here.' Standing beside Jalal Shah, Shah Mehmood said PTI wanted to take the nationalists along in political struggle.

Pakistan needs dams but with consensus, Shah Mehmood said.

Qureshi Hijacked PTI: SMQ as Chairman of a Scrutiny Committee

ISLAMABAD - It seems Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan has deliberately blocked the way of veteran leaders of PTI, who are already perturbed over inclusion of establishment backed opportunist politicians, in decision making over the issue of new entrants to party.
On Monday, the issuance of a notification from party's Central Secretariat to PTI leaders informing them the decision of appointment of a newcomer to party, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, as Chairman of a Scrutiny Committee mandated to evaluate properly the integrity and history of the new entrants to party has raised many eyebrows.
The 10-member Scrutiny Committee with PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi as its Chairman is mandated a task to ensure stoppage of influx of controversial and corrupt politicians to PTI.


The scrutiny committee was formed on Monday.


The decision of formation of this Scrutiny Committee to check new entrants was taken during the Central Executive Committee of the party.
However, during the course of meeting Imran Khan had assured the members of CEC that some time tested and senior party leader with high integrity would be appointed as its Chairman.
Earlier, during the CEC meeting the name of senior PTI leader Hamid Khan was finalised as Chairman of the Scrutiny Committee. But he was made not even member of the committee.
The members of the Scrutiny Committee included PTI Secretary General Dr Arif Alvi, Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Shahid Zulfiqar, Pervaiz Khattak, Nazar Baloch, Zohair Asheer, Iftikhar Soomro, Malik Sohail, Mian Sajid and Shah Farman.
A senior PTI leader wishing not to be named informed that senior party leaders have shown reservations over the issue who had joined the party over its manifesto and ideology years ago.
He said there was a strong feeling among those ideological leaders that new entrants had completely hijacked the party and following their suggestions Imran Khan was making decisions without caring for the consequences.
He said senior leaders were already disturbed over appointing Shah Mehmood to the post of Vice Chairman of the party and this decision had further added fuel to the fire.
However, he stated that issue would be taken up in the upcoming CEC meeting of the party.
As per working procedures of the committee, from now onwards all proposals regarding joining of individuals coming directly to the Chairman PTI would go to the scrutiny committee.
Also the proposals which the provincial Presidents, regional organisers would approve for joining in the presence of the Chairman should also be approved by the Scrutiny Committee.
The committee has also been asked to particularly weigh proposals where former Senators or Parliamentarians or prominent members of other parties wish to join.
The Scrutiny Committee has also been asked to get all the available information of the ‘would be entrants’ and make a decision in this regard within a maximum of two days from the date of submission.
In case of a positive nod from the Scrutiny Committee, the matter would be referred to regional organisers who would further scrutinise the hopefuls.
In case of emergence of any difference of opinion between CEC and regional organisers, the issue would be sent to PTI Chairman for final decision on the issue.

ISLAMABAD: There are signs that an understanding was reached between PTI Chief Imran Khan and newcomer Shah Mahmood Qureshi as a condition of joining his party. 

The deal would get him the post of Senior Vice Chairman and interestingly, chief of the Parliamentary Board, which will award PTI tickets in the next elections.“These offices would be given to Qureshi under the arrangements finalised before he joined the PTI,” PTI sources

Since Shah Mahmood Qureshi was not available as he is out of the country, PTI Secretary General Dr Arif Alvi, when contacted, neither denied nor confirmed the dual posts deal. “Qureshi Sb, being one of the senior politicians in our party, would, definitely, have a formal position in the Tehrik-e-Insaaf but there is no decision as yet,” he said.

To a question, Alvi said the PTI central core committee, the decision making body, would meet most possibly next week to take up a host of issues. “All decisions are finalised in our party in consultation with the whole central leadership.”

Sources say Imran Khan can take Qureshi for the slot of vice chairmanship at any time. “He would have the position next to the party’s founding chief.” Former President Supreme Court Bar Association Hamid Khan Advocate, incumbent VC, would be given another position in the party, the sources added.

The party constitution, they quickly further added, would be amended to create some more offices within the party to meet new requirements as more and more personalities are to be accepted in the PTI ranks.

The PTI sources said Hamid Khan’s office would also be determined from among the new positions to be created. “Imran does not want to corner or discourage those working for the party since a long but do not have winning constituencies.”

Another part of the deal is that the former foreign minister would have 25 per cent of the candidates of his personal choice to contest the general election from the National Assembly and provincial assembly seats of the Punjab,” the source further revealed.

These arrangements, they said confidently, were finalised between the meetings between Imran Khan and Qureshi before the latter joined the party last Sunday.

According to the PTI sources, Qureshi would have preferred the PML-N if these terms were not accepted by the PTI chairman for joining. “Justice (Retd) Wajihuddin Ahmad was expected to be named for the parliamentary board but now he would be accommodated at some other position.”

PTI Secretary General Alvi said the parliamentary board was yet to be formed. “Committees have been set up to establish the central board for selecting candidates. “I am unaware about the agreement between Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Imran Khan on the number of seats they discussed before the former foreign minister joined the PTI,” Alvi said.
