Nisar says 250 militants flee Karachi, enter N.Waziristan

Thursday, 19 September 2013

19-09-2013 | News Pakistan
Interior Minister, Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan, Thursday told the parliament that nearly 250 terrorists have fled the port city of Karachi after the paramilitary troops launched operations and they have now entered the Waziristan tribal region.

The security forces have launched targeted operations against the terrorists, target killers, extortionists, kidnappers and criminal gangs in Karachi following sharp increase in terrorist activities, killings, kidnapping for ransom and crimes.

Paramilitary Rangers are leading the operation with the support of intelligence agencies and police and have arrested hundreds of suspects over the past few weeks.

The Interior Minister told the National Assembly that terrorists from Karachi have started moving to other places.

“Over 250 terrorists in small groups have entered in North Waziristan since the targeted operation has been launched in Karachi,” he told the Lower House of the parliament.

Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that the terrorists in Karachi are on the run but they will find no place to hide and will be brought to justice.

Rights groups say that nearly 1800 people have been killed in target attacks in the first six of this year.

The Minister said the toll of target killing in Karachi has substantially been reduced to lower part of single digit‚ however‚ it is beginning of the operation.

He said the Rangers have carried out four hundred targeted actions in Karachi and have arrested a number of target killers and other suspects.

He said the first phase of the operation is going to end soon but the second and third phases are crucial, adding the first phase of the targeted operation has not yet been completed and the Rangers have got remarkable successes in the phase.

He said that the targeted operation will be further intensified in the second and third phases.

On the issue of talks with the Taliban, the minister said the killing of senior military officers in the Taliban attack on Sunday has caused a setback to the proposed peace talks. He however requested political parties to not politicize the Taliban attack in the northwestern Upper Dir district.

He lauded all political parties’ efforts to develop consensus on the operation being carried out in Karachi and said without the realization of collective responsibility success is not possible. Ch. Nisar said the things are moving in the right direction in the captaincy of Chief Minister Sindh.

He said the so called Mohajir Republic Army has no link with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

ANP responsible for target killing of Pakhtuns in Karachi, says Muqam

Monday, 23 January 2012

The News
NOWSHERA: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Amir Muqam on Sunday accused the Awami National Party (ANP) of playing politics over the bodies of the Pakhtuns in Karachi. Addressing a public gathering in the Jalozai Camp in Nowshera, he said the entire Pakhtun nation had rendered sacrifices in the fight against terrorism but the leadership of the ANP had reaped the rewards.
“We don’t want to belittle the sacrifices offered by the ANP leaders and workers but they have received the price manifold,” Amir Muqam argued. He accused the ANP of being responsible for the targetted-killings of the Pakhtuns in Karachi. He said the Pakhtuns were living peacefully in Karachi and earning their livelihood before the arrival of the ANP there.
“Four suicide attacks have been carried out to kill me. Several leaders and workers of our party were killed in the tribal and other areas in the province. But we are not playing politics over their bodies,” he stressed. He said his party activists had formed peace bodies in Peshawar but the government did not extend cooperation to them.
“This camp bears witness to the fact that the Pakhtuns have offered sacrifices and suffered untold miseries in the war against terror. The people belonging to Malakand Division and the tribal areas had to leave their hometowns and live here under tough conditions,” he said.
The PML-Q leader alleged that the PPP and the ANP leaders were looting the country’s resources and extending their rule in the name of democracy. He said the nation knew the stooges of the US and those behind the US drone attacks. Muqam said that investigation into the memogate scandal should be held to ascertain the facts.

ANP leader's murder sparks violence in Karachi

Wednesday, 30 November 2011

Around 2,000 chickens were burnt alive on Tuesday after the target killing of a local ANP leader sparked violence in some parts of the city.
The chickens, which arrived as part of a consignment, were set ablaze as tension escalated following the slaying of the vice-president of the UC-7 Nursery Ward of the ANP, Gul Nawaz Khan, who was shot dead by two motorcyclists in a slum in the Kala Pul area within the Tipu Sultan police limits.
SHO Chaudhry Arshad of the Tipu Sultan police confirmed that the 32-year-old victim was a local ANP leader. Khan suffered two bullet wounds. The police seized the empty bullet casings from the scene of the crime.
Tension developed in the area following the incident and armed men resorted to aerial firing, while activists of the ANP staged a protest at a hospital against the murder of their leader. The deceased was a resident of Lal Kothi in Tipu Sultan and originally hailed from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Police sources said an FIR had been registered against Imran alias Mani, Zulfiqar alias Papu, Bilal alias Tension and Sarzameen alias Lala. However, no arrests have been made so far. Investigators said it was premature to conclude that Khan fell victim to yet another target killing or he was killed due to a personal enmity.
Meanwhile, a truck carrying a consignment of chickens reached a shop in Chanesar Goth which belonged to Bilal alias Tension, one of the accused in Gul Nawaz Khan's murder. Suddenly, armed men appeared at the scene and set fire to the truck carrying the chickens, burning them alive. Police sources said that fire tenders were immediately called to the scene, but despite their best efforts to extinguish the flames, they were unable to save the chickens.
