Raid in Sohrab Goth: Recovered professor, trader among four abductees

Karachi: An abducted university professor and a trader among four people safely recovered by a joint team of the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) and the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) on Wednesday.
Col (Retd) Professor Iftikhar Abidi of Hamdard University had been kidnapped from Manghopir on November 16, when he was heading for work. The kidnappers had demanded a huge amount in ransom for his release.
On Wednesday morning, police received information about the presence of some kidnappers in Jangar Goth. AVCC personnel conducted a raid in the area and, after an encounter, recovered Abidi. However, the kidnappers escaped under the cover of fire.
Meanwhile, acting on another tip-off, an AVCC team raided a slum on the Northern Bypass and recovered Nisar Ahmed Soomro, who had been kidnapped on November 25 from Sohrab Goth.
In a separate raid, a joint team of the AVCC and the CPLC recovered Amin Lakhani and Naza Ali Sher, who were kidnapped on November 27 when they were going to Gadap from PIB Colony. The law enforcers also arrested four suspects.
