Nawaz Sharif likely to say ‘good bye’ to MQM’s governor

Monday, 12 May 2014

IISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif might have finally decided to change the longest standing Governor of Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan and summoned former Chief Minister of Sindh Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim for discussion.

According to the source privy to former CM, Nawaz Sharif asked Rahim to meet him in Islamabad on Tuesday, May 13.

Confirming the invitation, the spokesperson of Arbab Ghulam Rahim stated that all issues related to Sindh would be discussed in the meeting.

Source categorically mentioned that possible governor replacement in Sindh would also become the topic of discussion.

Arbab Ghulam Rahim in Sindh

Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim remained the Chief Minister of Sindh from the platform of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) from 2002 on wards. However, later he joined PML-N and contested the election. He is the sitting member of Sindh Assembly but at present not appearing in the proceedings at all.

Arbab, when in office, mentioned that woman’s rule for Pakistan is a curse. He was believed to be referring towards Benazir Bhutto who was alive at that time.

Moreover, after the 2008 elections when Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) formed government in Sindh and on the first day of assembly Arbab was attacked with shoe when he came to Sindh Assembly.

Even in current assembly, fearing victimization, Arbab Ghulam Rahim had submitted leave application with speaker of Sindh Assembly due to his crucial overseas stay.

MQM and PML-N

Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) is the largest political party in Karachi and Sindh’s urban areas. Although MQM supported PML-N’s candidate in presidential election but now it has politically wed PPP in Sindh after joining the coalition.

The present Governor of Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan was first appointed by former president General (rtd) Pervez Musharraf. He is the only longest standing Governor any province of Pakistan ever saw. Ebad has public and announced political affiliation with MQM.

Investigative report on Hakim Saeed’s murder probe

Saturday, 26 April 2014

Hakim Muhammad Saeed, former governor of Sindh from 1993 until 1996, was assassinated on October 17, 1998 while he was on his way to attend a medical experiment at the Hamdard Laboratories. Mr. Saeed was remained governor of the province in Benazir’s regime.

Accusations:

  • After the assassination of Hakim Saeed, Nawaz Sharif held a press conference and in which he framed Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in the murder of former governor Sindh. Premier Nawaz had also named some party workers and sitting electable too. CCPO Karachi of that time, DIG Farooq Amin Qureshi nabbed Karachi-based MQM workers over the murder charges.
  • In the same year of Hakeem Saeed killing, MQM’s convicted activist, Saulat Ali alias Saulat Mirza had also unveiled to Joint-interrogation-team that his party was behind Hakeem Saeed murder. At that time, it was the major breakthrough in the murder case and no one could assess either it was scripted JIT report or not.

  • Fasih Ahmed, an MQM activist was arrested over murder charges and within 6 hours he was killed in police custody. According to postmortem, the cause of Fasih’s death was severe torture. There were at least 30 external injuries on the body of 26-year-old Fasih Jugnoo who was brought dead to the JPMC from CIA centre.

  • Dawn: November 29th, 1998 — Mubashir Ali, another suspect, who was suspected by police for arranging the travel abroad of two of the suspects in Hakim Said case, died in police custody. When the Dawn staffers visited the victim's home in Akhtar Colony, it was found ransacked with personal effects scattered all over the place. A wailing Nazeeran, 28-year-old wife of Mubashir and mother of his four children - three boys (Rifaqat, Waqas and Khurram) and one girl (Aashi)-told Dawn that it had been ransacked by at least 20 policemen, many of whom had entered the house by scaling the walls.

  • On September 4th, 2010 — News emerged that a letter likely to point to the murderers of Hakim Saeed has been allegedly recovered by Scotland Yard from the house of slain MQM leader Dr Imran Farooq. Later on, MQM chief Altaf Hussain had alleged that Pakistan’s civilian agencies – IB and FIA had provided ‘misleading information’ to SLY.

Disclosures:

  • On July 22nd, 2010 — Former chief IB, Colonel Iqbal Niazi disclosed in a private TV show program that MQM was not involved in the murder of Hakim Saeed. He added, Rana Maqbool falsely implicated MQM’s men in this murder probe.

  • The former chief minister Sindh, Liaquat Ali Jatoi had also ruled out the involvement of MQM in the murder case of Hakim Saeed.
  • Finally after sixteen years, Supreme court of Pakistan acquitted three MQM workers (Mohammed Amirullah, Imran Pasha and Mohammed Shakir alias Shakir Langra) with prejudice in the murder case of Hakeem Muhammad Saeed due to lack of evidences.

The last speech of Hakim Saeed:

On October 17th, 1998 — the same day he was assassinated, Hakim Saeed lashed out feudal landlords and politicians in strong words. He added, those should be gunned down who are looters and saving money in foreign countries.

Mr. Saeed said, feudal landlords and politicians are running drug dens in the country.

According to reports, Hakim Saeed was about to disclose the corruption of Nawaz Sharif. He had published the debt’s list of Nawaz Sharif industries.

On October 28th, 1998 — Central Information Secretary of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI), Agha Riazul Islam has blamed that Hakim Said was murdered by a Raiwind based private intelligence agency set up by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Endorsing the MQM statement that “Sharif Mafia not MQM killed Hakim Saeed.”

The question is; who could be the beneficiary of Hakim Saeed’s killing, if MQM didn’t eliminate him. Mr. Saeed was the nemesis of feudal landlords and corrupt politicians. Do you believe that real perpetrators will be behind the bar and Hakim Saeed will get justice?

Blog: Imran Khan fooled again?

Wednesday, 2 April 2014

By Mohsin Naqvi | Published in the XReports.net, on April 2nd, 2014

You fool me once shame on you, you fool me twice, shame on me but here a great leader like Imran Khan has been fooled again and again by the corrupt political elite of Pakistan with a weapon of choice “a corrupt political system”.

Once a main leader for restoration of “Pakistan Judiciary Movement”, he became fool when the movement was hijacked by Mian Nawaz Sharif at Shahdara Chowk, Lahore. Nawaz Sharif was later hailed as the hero by the nation when near Jhelum PPP government agreed to reinstate former CJP and his judicial gang.

He was fooled again, trusting Pakistani judiciary would provide “free and fair election” in 2013 to the people of Pakistan. He later called election 2013 as most rigged election in the history of Pakistan. He was so furious that he called the election “a shameless act of Pakistani judiciary”. His dream to be a prime minister of Pakistan was snatched away from him when he was fooled to accept so called independent election commission of Pakistan. Feeling ashamed for his party’s failure to win majority against PML-N, he announced to bring people on the street and demanded recount. Later he backed off and now he is mute.

On the issue of Pakistani Taliban, Imran Khan got himself labeled as Taliban Khan, Zaliman Khan but he didn’t change his stance on Taliban. Right or wrong stance is a separate discussion but he presented himself as the true voice of Taliban not only to the Pakistani nation but the West and especially the United States. He wanted PTI to be Sinn Fein of Taliban to negotiate a peace deal with government but Taliban always denied him. He offered Taliban office in KPK and for years remained TTP’s unofficial spokesmen but Taliban always considered him part of the same “infidel democratic system”, though thanked for the offer.

After posting a Taliban label on himself and accepting political liability for having softer corner for terrorists, now once again, he is fooled. Closest to Imran Khan heart, Taliban peace talks are once again hijacked by Nawaz Sharif as the prime minister of the country. What Imran wanted from years, “negotiations with Taliban”, is happening in front of his eyes which he or PTI can’t claim any credit. Smartly, PM Nawaz Sharif has formed a government committee to directly negotiate so called “peace deal” with Taliban. One more time, Nawaz made Imran a “Mamoo” by having a breakfast at his residence and taking him in confidence that PLM-N government will achieve peace. Once again, Nawaz is a hero and Imran stands again at Zero.

These days when you see Imran Khan on the TV, he has a looser look evident on his face. As his mind is not accepting defeat, he keeps making meritless statements such as negotiations have proven a split between Taliban groups. Untrue, Taliban have no split and are more organized under their Ameer unlike Pakistani political parties. If he is referring to Ahrar-ul-Hind, a Taliban splinter group, he is wrong again because it’s been reported that F8 hit was authorized by four Taliban groups. Taliban are united and there are ‘no groups’ who have claimed disassociation with Taliban since the start of the government dialogue.

Imran Khan looks clueless about the negotiations, when he states that Taliban just have one demand, Pakistan should disassociate itself from American War. Untrue, all the demands that are put forth by Taliban have no mention of any such demand. Even Taliban know that Afghan war is over and American are leaving so disassociation is automatic and a matter of few months. Unknown to Imran Khan, TTP has only demanded 300 noncombatants, 700 combatants, free area or green-zone to move, prisoner exchange and enforcement of Sharia in their areas.

Imran Khan, as a elected member of Parliament forgets to acknowledge that few thousand terrorists can’t dictate the foreign policy of a nuclear nation of 180 million. It’s the job of the legislatures like himself and the government of Pakistan to come out with a foreign policy, truly reflecting the will of the people and represent national interests.

Adding to Imran Khan’s confusion and frustration are the internal affairs of PTI which are running out of control. Top PTI leadership fights over party controls and can’t handle their respective party roles let alone if given a national role. Alarming also is a drop in overseas support and with next elections 4 plus years away. Future premiership of Pakistan is looking murky to him.

It will be sad to see such a legend, a hero, pride of the nation, a great leader and a social worker standing on the wrong side of the history in politics. Where he should have been a vocalist for 70,000 victims of terror, he voiced the concerns of the terrorists and where he should have taken a lead to get 2013 election void, he stood muted to support shame democracy.

In my view, his close political pundits have misguided him in believing that if street power is used, military will take over derailing the political system. The false doctrine to save democracy, PTI should except the election results itself, undermining Imran Khan’s own demonstrated leadership abilities to unite people. He should not forget that PTI holds most popular vote in Pakistan and if any, PTI will be the beneficiary of any such adventurism by military so as Imran Khan he should stand for what is right. That what makes Imran Khan, “Great Khan”.

My advice, take a vacation to London, reassess and revisit policies based on demographics and then reform the party once you come back. If PM Nawaz Sharif-backed-by Saudi regime succeeds to bring 20 percent improvement in current Pakistan, I see a great grandson Sharif running Pakistan with no PTI in the picture.

بلاگ: بے ضمیر حکمراں اور اسلامی جمہوریہ پاکستان

Monday, 31 March 2014

By Muhammad Umair | Published in the XReports.net, on April 1st, 2014

Nawaz Sharif's $4.6 million watch ticks loud in NA

Tuesday, 18 June 2013

18-06-2013 | Dawn News
ISLAMABAD, June 17: Political sparring in the parliament is timeless but a PPP MNA chose a real watch to pour scorn on the national budget presented by the newly-elected government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

“What else one can expect from a party whose leaders are fond of wearing such expensive personal items,” MNA Shazia Marri said in the National Assembly on Monday, ridiculing the budget and alluding to a $4.6 million watch worn by an unnamed PML-N leader.

She said the budget was not pro-people and had been prepared for the rich.

Her disclosure of the expensive wristwatch astonished everyone in the house, including the Speaker.

In her budget speech, she also compared PPP’s what she claimed pro-poor budgets over the last five years to that of the PML-N government.

Deploring the federal budget, Ms Marri said it seemed to have been prepared only to cater to the needs of the rich industrialists of the country.

In a state of disbelief, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq interjected, seeking a clarification from Ms Marri if she had mentioned the price of the watch in rupees or American dollars. In response, Ms Marri said she had done research on the price tag of the watch which cost 4.6 million dollars. “Then the owner of the watch must have got it adequately insured,” commented the speaker.

It was not only the speaker, Ms Marri’s colleagues sitting across the aisle and mediapersons in the press gallery also got surprised with the claim.

A colleague sitting in the press gallery immediately calculated the price in Pakistan rupees and put the figure at Rs455 million. If it’s true, it makes a huge story, said a senior journalist.

“This is unbelievable. How come one can wear such a costly watch,” said a PML-N MNA when he asked about the claim made by Ms Marri.

Wikileaks: Zardari and Nawaz had secret deal about reinstatement of Chief Justice

Wednesday, 10 April 2013

10-04-2013

B. ISLAMABAD 970
C. ISLAMABAD 924

Classified By: Anne W. Patterson, Reasons 1.4 (b), (d)

1. (C) Summary: Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leader Asif Zardari told Ambassador 10 that yesterday's agreement with Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif was less than it seemed regarding the restoration of the judges (Ref A). Zardari reiterated his desire to work with Musharraf as President. He and Nawaz have agreed, privately, that former Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry will not be restored and that the current Chief Justice will remain. Zardari said his choice for Prime Minister was Yousef Gillani (Ref B). Zardari has selected Sherry Rehman as Minister of Information and Syed Naveed Qamar as Minister of Finance (Ref C). Embassy cautions there is more ground to travel before these issues are resolved. Zardari seems sincere and has shown some political courage, particularly on the Kashmir issue. He has good ideas, especially on the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and on economic issues. But it remains to be seen how he will handle the parliament)- and his coalition partners -- once the sessions get underway. End Summary.

2. (C) Ambassador called on Asif Zardari March 10 to get his version of the "deal" with PML-N head Nawaz Sharif. Zardari said he and Nawaz had agreed (very privately) that the former Chief Justice would not be restored, nor would current Chief Justice Dogar be removed. Zardari said he had to do something about the judges: a new civilian government could not keep the former Chief Justice and his family, including two disabled children, in confinement two blocks from the parliament, and Zardari had conveyed this view to ISI head Nadeem Taj and NSA Tariq Aziz. He had asked the government to move the former Chief Justice to his family home in Quetta, but the government had refused, arguing that the CJ "had a gun" and would forcibly resist being moved.(Comment: No one wants the black eye of moving the former Chief Justice and his family under the glare of international publicity. End Comment.) When Ambassador asked about the 30 day deadline for the parliamentary resolution which would supposedly reinstate the judges, Zardari laughed and said in politics thirty days could become eighty or ninety. He reiterated his commitment to working with Musharraf and especially Tariq Aziz, with whom he felt particularly comfortable. He wanted Musharraf to "relax" and not be so concerned about the former Chief Justice.

TTP seek guarantee from Fazlur Rehman, Munawar Hasan and Nawaz Sharif

Sunday, 3 February 2013

03-02-2013 | Geo News
PESHAWAR: The proscribed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan outlined two conditions to hold talks with the government.

Ehsanullah Ehsan, spokesman for the terror outfit, in a video message blamed the government for being non-serious over their earlier ceasefire offer.

The TTP spokesman expressed no confidence over the military for what it said its violation of past agreements reached upon between the army and the militants.

He said the Taliban would hold talks with the government if Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Munawar Hasan, and Nawaz Sharif came forward for being guarantor.

He put second condition by demanding the government to release Taliban leaders Muslim Khan, Haji Umar and Maulana Mehmood, members of militia’s political wing.

Reacting over a peace offer by the founding father of Pakistan’s nuclear program Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, who Saturday said he was ready to become a mediator between the Taliban and the government, Ehsan termed the nuclear scientist an asset for Pakistan and said his offer was being considered.

He further said that the militia would seep up its attacks against the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, a government ally in Sindh and the centre.

$418m corruption by Nawaz Sharif as prime minister

Sunday, 6 January 2013

06-01-2012 | Pakistan Today
ISLAMABAD - PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif made financial gains of $418 million during his twice stints as Prime Minister of the country, according to a book entitled Capitalism’s Achilles Heel by Raymond W Baker.

The book is a dossier on the corruption of most dominated political families in the history including Nawaz Sharif and how they accumulated their properties, factories and enormous wealth.

According to the book, at least $160 million were pocketed by Nawaz Sharif during his first stint as the Prime Minister in the 1990, from a contract to build a highway from Lahore, his home town, to Islamabad, the nation’s capital.

At least $140 million in unsecured loans from Pakistan’s state banks. More than $60 million generated from government rebates on sugar exported by mills controlled by Mr. Sharif and his business associates.

At least $58 million skimmed from prices paid for imported wheat from the United States and Canada. In the wheat deal, Mr. Sharif’s government paid prices far above market value to a private company owned by a close associate of his in Washington, the records show. Falsely in?ated invoices for the wheat generated tens of millions of dollars in cash.

The book review went on to state that “The extent and magnitude of this corruption is so staggering that it has put the very integrity of the country at stake.”

Under Sharif, unpaid bank loans and massive tax evasion remained the favorite ways to get rich.

Upon his loss of power the usurping government published a list of 322 of the largest loan defaulters, representing almost $3 billion out of $4 billion owed to banks. Sharif and his family were tagged for $60 million.

Like Bhutto, offshore companies have been linked to Sharif, three in the British Virgin Islands by the names of Nescoll, Nielson, and Shamrock and another in the Channel Islands known as Chandron Jersey Pvt. Ltd. Some of these entities allegedly were used to facilitate purchase of four rather grand flats on Park Lane in London, at various times occupied by Sharif family members.

Twenty-two containers of carpets and furniture followed, and, of course, his foreign accounts remained mostly intact. Ensconced in a glittering palace in Jeddah, he is described as looking “corpulent” amidst “opulent” surroundings.

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz says his father Nawaz Sharif went to Saudi Arabia owing to King Abdullah’s efforts.

“King Abdullah negotiated my father’s exile with the former president Gen (Retd) Pervez Musharraf”, said she addressing Young Lawyers Forum’s inaugural.

She said King Abdullah came to rescue my father when he was in trouble.

“The custodian of the two holy mosques himself approached Musharraf to get my father out of Pakistan”, Maryam said.

Musharraf was trying to engineer a death sentence for my father by framing him for crimes he had never committed.

“When Sindh High Court sentenced my father for life twice I was there in the court the courtroom. I rose and pleaded with the judge in the chair to have fear of God as an innocent was being convicted”, said PML-N leader.

In the end she said that had Nawaz Sharif wanted to turn the "long march" to his favour he would have landed the premiership easily.
