PTI lawmaker terms minorities as ‘Kaafir’

Thursday, 13 November 2014

ISLAMABAD: The minority communities of Pakistan were left stunned when one Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and popular face on TV shows called all non-Muslims ‘Kaafir’.

Ali Muhammad Khan, PTI member of the National Assembly (MNA) from Mardan, declared all non-Muslims of Pakistan as ‘Kaafir’ in a TV show. The host as well as the PPP leader, Qamar Zaman Kaira, tried to salvage the situation when the PTI MNA’s remarks were instantly confronted. However, Ali Muhammad Khan remained adamant and persisted with what he already had said.

The Central President of the Minority Wing of the PTI, Sajid Ishaq, said that the statement by Ali Muhammad Khan, whom he had always held as a very worthy party leader and a highly learned person, had gravely hurt the sentiments of the minority communities of Pakistan.

“The fact is that the minority communities of Pakistan have visibly started liking Imran Khan and his party, the PTI, for their open stance towards their problems and issues and have always been promising to treat them as equal citizens of the country,” the central president of the Minority Wing of PTI said while talking to The News here Thursday.

“This was an outrageous and uncalled for remark uttered by a respected and popular PTI leader and the members of the minority communities have felt greatly hurt. Not only did he say those words but then stubbornly stood by what he had said despite all the explanations offered by the opponents on his behalf to mitigate the pain he had inflicted and damage he had caused,” Sajid Ishaq said.

He said that he had already raised the matter with the party Chairman Imran Khan, and had explained the whole situation to him as to how badly Ali Muhammad Khan had hurt the religious sentiments of the minorities of Pakistan.

“The damage caused by Ali Muhammad Khan’s statement is not confined to the geographical borders of Pakistan but it has also damaged the party’s position at the international level. The people and the governments all over the world are bound to take these remarks seriously,” the Minority Wing chairman of the PTI told.

“Khan Sahib (Imran Khan) has already told me that Ali Muhammad Khan has taken back his words. But I think this is not enough. The minority communities are badly hurt. They are angry and their support for PTI has started wavering. The minority community supporters of PTI were never expecting such a cruel remark from one of the party’s popular leaders. Other parties are already out there to exploit the situation and win over their support,” Sajid Ishaq said.

“A closed-door apology or taking his words back in a telephonic conversation with the party chairman is not going to appease members of the minority communities all over the country. Ali Muhammad Khan, who indeed is a learned person, should have the grace to accept the mistake he has made in one of these TV shows in which he is so frequently appearing and should tender an apology to the minority communities for hurting their religious sentiments,” Sajid Ishaq said.

“It’s human to err and he should show the courage to accept that he has made a mistake. A mistake that has badly hurt millions of non-Muslim Pakistanis. A public clarification and an apology by Ali Muhammad Khan will not hurt him but will only prove his mettle,” Sajid Ishaq said.

“As a Sindhi, I condemn any talk of dividing Sindh” — PTI Sindh president

Thursday, 18 September 2014

KARACHI: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said on Thursday that a division of Sindh would not be acceptable at any cost.

“As a Sindhi, I condemn any talk of dividing Sindh,” said PTI Sindh president Nadir Akmal Khan Leghari at a press conference at Palwal House, the residence of a senior PTI leader.

The party leader announced that PTI chief Imran Khan will be coming to Karachi on Sunday afternoon to address a sit-in near the Mazar-e-Quaid and would fly back to Islamabad the same night. He said that it had been a long time since Imran had interacted with the people of Karachi, and he was coming to meet them and express his gratitutde for their support.

Leghari asserted that had elections been free and fair in Karachi, PTI would have emerged as the biggest party, with the highest number of seats and votes in the metropolis. “In the next general elections, PTI will be the major party from Sindh,” he declared.

Referring to the recent incident where PIA passengers had forced Pakistan Peoples Party’s Rehman Malik and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Ramesh Kumar off the plane, Leghari said that the PTI had exposed the VIP culture of Pakistani society and called for an end to this culture.

“Target killings have been prevalent in Karachi for years,” he said, moving on to the law and order situation in the city. “The law enforcement agencies know who these killers are, but they are not arrested and roam around freely instead.”

Leghari claimed that unlike the Punjab police, the Sindh police had been actively participating in PTI’s sit-ins in Karachi.

“We waited for Imran Khan with empty stomachs, must go home now”

Saturday, 16 August 2014

ISLAMABAD - Their eyes were swollen for suffering a sleepless night on the pavement of a road near Aabpara Market and were required to be on their toes the next day dancing to Pashto songs sung in praise of their leader. The irritating long wait for arrival of their leaders had consumed their energy. A group of PTI supporters had decided to retreat in the evening of Friday before the revolutionary rally steps in Islamabad.

They had been brought from far-flung area of Lakki Marwat and were dumped on a green belt along Zero Point Interchange where they found no shelter in the dark night of Thursday.

Tashfeen Marwat, 22, along with his six other colleagues from Lakki Marwat was observed asking people for helping them the location of bus station in Islamabad so that they could go back to their native area, Lakki Marwat, some 400 kilometers off Islamabad.

The young activists had been brought to Islamabad by PTI leaders for showing maximum strength in the federal capital as part of a long march that PTI chief Imran Khan claims to be a giving 'real independence' to Pakistan.

"We waited for Imran Khan with empty stomachs. We are sleepy and must go home. We cannot dance anymore," Shamim Marwat, 24, was adamant to return to his native area and was forcing his other colleagues to accompany him.

The presence of PTI supporters and followers of Dr Tahirul Qadri could be observed occupying Zero Point Bridge stretched on 200-meter area with a sizeable number of vendors who had thronged the venue for selling items.

And a light drizzle before sunset on Friday rendered the only gathering place of protesters deserted as the tsunami-trumpeting supporters of PTI and harbinger of Qadri's revolution could not withstand the shower and rushed for cover.

In the absence of any senior PTI's office-bearer for ensuring stay of the participants, most of the local supporters had gone home by evening while the rest of activists had thronged commercial markets for buying something for food or arranging rented accommodation for night stay.

The Aabpara Market was the only commercial market that witnessed huge rush of shoppers for being near to the venue and for having shops where enough quantity of Naswar was available.

Since most of the protesters that had arrived on Thursday belonged to southern parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the demand for traditional Naswar was on the rise and there was no place to meet the growing demand except Aabpara Market where the business is flourishing.

"I keep stock of Naswar that lasts for a week. Now I am short of the quantity as the entire stockpile was sold out within two days. I have to bring more stuff now," Nawaz Khan, a happy shopkeeper in the market.

Not all participants were exhausted as some of the local followers of Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) who poured into the city late, were observed wielding sticks and hooting at police deployed on Islamabad Highway.

A policeman who requested anonymity said that he had waved party flags of the activists in order to earn sympathies of the participants adding that on many occasions he was not treated well by the young supporters.

Ziaullah Afridi, KP Minister for Minerals, and Mushtaq Ghani, Minister for Higher Education, were observed roaming Abapara area for gathering the supporters once again as the venue at Zero Point Bridge was gradually getting deserted.

The ministers to some extent got successful by assembling dozens of loyalists and convincing them to ensure their presence at the venue so that they could welcome the approaching rally from Lahore led by Imran Khan.

Saturday, 9 August 2014

Survey shows mainly middle class disapproves Imran at key office; overwhelming majority opposes dictatorship; people not satisfied with Nawaz Sharif’s performance.

As Imran Khan flexes his muscles to overthrow the elected government for the mid-term elections hoping it will win him the top slot, an opinion survey has found majority of Pakistanis opposed to electing him as the prime minister under the current circumstances.

They thought, the survey statistics indicate, Imran would wait for the next general elections to vie for the prime minister’s office and said they would not vote him for his dream position no matter the elections were held today or four-years later.

PTI now blames ex-COAS General Kayani for rigging

Thursday, 7 August 2014

Also accuses US, UAE, Saudi Arabia, India and MI

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has now blamed former chief of army staff General (R) Ashfaq Parvez Kayani of allegedly rigging the general election 2013 to help Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) win.

This time, the PTI has also accused America, Untied Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, MI-6 and India of becoming part of the rigging. For the PTI, everyone else except itself rigged the election.

After Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and judiciary, Jang Group and a brigadier of Military Intelligence, now the foreign powers have also been accused along with the then chief of army staff.

Interestingly, Gen (R) Kayani is being accused at a time when he no longer holds the position of the COAS. Imran Khan straightened up his guns on former chief justice when Iftikhar Chaudhry has relinquished the charge of his office.

The PTI deputy information secretary, in a live television show, accused Gen (R) Kayani of rigging election for the PML-N. He even stated that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Chaudhry Nisar had been meeting Gen (R) Kayani in the late hours of the night, and, as a result, the mandate was gifted to Nawaz Sharif.

It is important to mention here that Imran Khan too has been sharing the same views that Gen (R) Kayani had rigged the election with his close associates in PTI party meetings and a few media persons. For the media persons with whom Imran has shared his thoughts, PTI’s deputy information secretary’s allegations were a reflection of what PTI chief thinks and says in party meetings.

Sources in the PTI say that Imran Khan did not say anything about former Iftikhar Chaudhry before his retirement and similarly he kept mum over Gen (R) Kayani’s alleged role in rigging and it is likely that Imran will also accuse officials of top defence institutions right after their retirement.

Imran Khan and his PTI have accused everybody under the sun of becoming part of rigging in 2013 election. Imran in a bid to balance his pro-army stance also alleged that a brigadier of Military Intelligence had rigged general election. When Khan was asked to name that army officer, he said that he will name him in his May 11, 2014, speech. Many months have passed, Khan has made numerous speeches but his followers keep on waiting for the announcement of the name of MI’s brigadier, but Imran once again preferred pointing his guns at other targets instead of naming the army officer.

Imran Khan also accused Jang Group of becoming part of rigging without any proofs. When Imran was belied with evidence, he turned his guns on others. Imran had alleged that Geo aired Nawaz Sharif’s victory speech too early but when it was proved that it was not Geo which aired Nawaz Sharif first but other channels aired it before Geo, then PTI Secretary Information Shireen Mazari gave a statement that they never said Geo aired it first thus belying her chairman on media. Imran still has been unable to bring any evidence of Jang Group’s involvement in rigging 2013 election.

Free and fair Election Network (Fafen), the largest network of voter monitoring and fraud monitoring, which Imran Khan frequently cites, has said Geo News can’t be held responsible for any rigging and in fact played a positive role in exposing rigging in May 2013.
